Optaros: Taking Credit for CTC Project?

After five months of hard work, the Chicago Technology Cooperative launched a major community media site in the summer of 2007. Shortly thereafter, a company named Optaros issued a press release stating that they had created the new site. After numerous attempts, we have been unable to persuade Optaros management to correct their misleading statements.

To avoid any confusion on the part of our customers and our colleagues in the Drupal community, CTC would like to clarify that we architected, developed, and implemented the site in question from the ground up, using no code other than the open source Drupal content management system, open source third-party modules, and custom components we wrote in-house. We're unsure of what Optaros may have "assembled" or "created" prior to our development of the site, but the screenshot in their online case study depicts a website that they did not participate in building whatsoever.

The CTC team feels that the behavior of Optaros in this situation is dishonest, unethical, and harmful to the Drupal community as a whole.

CTC dissolved in 2010 and its members moved on to other nonprofit technology, website development, and application development opportunities.  Nonprofit organizations seeking website assistance can contact Jim Craner or Jacob Roufa.  Employers seeking to verify employment of former CTC members can use this form.
