Nonprofit Website Bootcamp: Chicago, Oct 27-29, 2008
NPO Website Bootcamp
This intensive class covers high-level Internet strategy applicable to small and mid-sized nonprofit organizations as well as plenty of "hands-on" workshop experience working with modern, cutting edge (and free!) website development software. The class is aimed at NPO staff who are "in charge of the website," which can include support staff, program staff, development officers, and even executive directors: no technical experience is required. The in-class "project" websites, developed with the free Drupal content management software, can be transferred to participants' servers after class. Bootcamp sessions are led by multiple CTC consultants, including specialists in design, content management, search engine optimization, and more. Sessions are limited to 6-8 attendees to ensure maximum time available for each participants' questions and discussion needs.
- Day 1 - Classroom day: Internet strategy for nonprofit organizations; Technical background seminar (with Geek-English dictionary); Modern topics in Internet strategy; Planning your website project
- Day 2 - Computer lab day: Hands-on with the free Drupal website content management system; Building a website with a CMS; Information architecture for nonprofit websites; Managing a website
- Day 3 - Optional - computer lab day: participants work individually on their own organizational sites with input from CTC consultants and designers who will be rotating throughout the lab answering questions and reviewing progress.
The bootcamp is designed for small and midsize nonprofit organizations in one of the following groups:
- Nonprofits with an existing but unsatisfactory website that are planning a new or overhauled web presence and are seeking an effective training experience to prepare for the project
- New or very small nonprofits with no website development budget who need affordable "do it yourself" training and experience, as well as a simple website they can launch after bootcamp
- Nonprofit organizations with a limited website budget seeking to build a prototype for future development, and possibly fundraising
If you have any questions about the bootcamp content, or whether it's appropriate for your organization, please don't hesitate to contact CTC to speak with an instructor.
CTC dissolved in 2010 and its members moved on to other nonprofit technology, website development, and application development opportunities. Nonprofit organizations seeking website assistance can contact Jim Craner or Jacob Roufa. Employers seeking to verify employment of former CTC members can use this form.
